| This is a followup to the STAR TREK episode The Omega Glory, in which a starship caption friend of Kirk's sets McCoy to working out a serum isolating the factors which allow the natives of a particular planet to live several hundred years. McCoy discovers that the natives' lifespan is so long because that's just natural for them. Of the serum he's been made to produce he says, "For all I know it'll finally cure the common cold, but make you live longer? I can do more for you if you eat right and exercise regularly." Ordinarily it's against my religion to explain a joke but that speech of McCoy's sticks in my head and I seize all opportunities to repeat it, which are few. |
